New England Aquarium & IMAX Theatre

NEW ENGLAND AQUARIUM & IMAX THEATRE

Boston, MA

UPGRADE THE AUDIO AND VIDEO SYSTEM IN THE MARINE MAMMAL CENTER AT THE NEW ENGLAND AQUARIUM.

The New England Aquarium is a global leader in ocean exploration and marine conservation. With more than 1.3 million visitors a year, the Aquarium is one of the premier visitor attractions in Boston and a major public education resource for the region.

CCS Presentation Systems was hired at the start of 2016 to help with audio and video enhancements for the aquarium’s New Balance Foundation Marine Mammal Center, Simons IMAX Theater, and Main Building’s public address (PA) system.

While discussing the objectives for the recent renovations, Robert Loyot, director of information technology, said, “Over the last year I tasked CCS with the job of overhauling three significant audiovisual systems at the NEAQ. The CCS team faced several challenges associated with these projects. As one might expect, these systems had been through various upgrades and enhancements over their respective lifecycles, and CCS had to do quite a bit of homework in order to safely decommission, gather proper updated requirements, design, and finally, deploy new systems. All three projects were total successes and the many stakeholders that were touched by this work were completely satisfied. CCS is my go-to AV integrator at this point.”

The Marine Mammal Center’s goal was to update the audio and video system. “The MMC team was looking for new functionality from their system to improve their interaction with the audience,” said Craig Wiley, CCS’s technical operations manager. “They also aspired to be ready for a more interactive experience with potential ‘virtual’ attend-ees in the future. With this in mind, we chose products that were the most flexible, as unforeseen system needs were bound to happen.”

To accomplish this, CCS began with troubleshooting the existing systems and interviewing the folks working in the area to understand their needs. The devised plan for system upgrades began with rebuilding and updating the aquarium’s existing equipment rack for ease of use, followed with improved quality of audio for the Marine Mammal trainers and presenters.

Southern New Hampshire University

SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE UNIVERSITY (SNHU)

Manchester, NH

CCS COMPLETED WORK ON 4 DIFFERENT SNHU SPACES

1. Green Center (located at the Main Campus)

Over the last few years SNHU has made many upgrades to its Manchester campus, one being the creation of the Green Center for Student Success. This building houses various campus organizations and provides a student-friendly environment for its visitors. CCS’ challenge was to outfit the space with simple, easy-to-use technologies, allowing efficient collaboration for information sharing.

The CCS Solution

Since SNHU and CCS have worked closely on many projects, this partnership has allowed the development of a technology standard, stressing ease-of use.

The Web Conferencing area features a SNHU built-in PC with wireless keyboard and mouse, avoiding connection issues from variations with ‘guest computers.’ Presentations by users are handled with easy access laptop connections, provided at tables in cable cubbies.

2. Gustafson Center (located at the Main Campus)

Gustafson Welcome Center houses Admissions, Alumni Development, Campus Marketing, Career Development functions and a location for Student Worker Training for prospective student tours.

SNHU’s goal was to create a large, divisible conference room, within the Gustafson Center, to be used as a training center for student tours and other venues. SNHU wanted to incorporate easy-to-use technologies to enhance trainings and group collaboration.

Products added throughout the space included:

    • Barco ClickShare
    • Da-Lite Customized Projection Screens
    • Extron DTP Extenders
    • Extron Media Link Button & TLP PRO Control Panels
    • Extron Scaling Presentation Switcher
    • Middle Atlantic Equipment Racks
    • NEC & Samsung Professional Displays
    • Panasonic WUXGA Projectors
    • Samsung Wireless Displays
    • Shure Wireless Microphone Systems

3. Web Conferencing Rooms – (located at the SNHU College of Online & Continuing Education Millyard building)
Create Web Conferencing Rooms with easy, quick, simple connectivity

The CCS Solution

SNHU and CCS collaborated to create simple and easy to use web conferencing and/or presentation systems.
Anyone entering one of these conference rooms just plugs their own laptop into a compatible connector from the table’s cable cubby for Presentation, or picks up the wireless keyboard and mouse to initiate a web conference with the in-room, stationery PC.
The selected input from the Control Panel displays that source’s image on the wall mounted Commercial Display, while Audio conferencing control is via the QSC Touchscreen tabletop PoE controller.

4. Divisible Conference Room (the room(s) are called Windermere) (located at the SNHU College of Online & Continuing Education Millyard building)

SNHU wanted to create a conference room large enough to accommodate the growing COCE, with easy-to-use audio visual systems, eliminating the need for SNHU AV Department’s continual assistance. SNHU located a space for very large gatherings, that would also allow division into 3 individually operating smaller conference rooms, when needed. CCS was chosen to integrate all of the Audio Visual Presentation, Video and Audio Conferencing technology.

The CCS Solution
CCS integrated the following products:

  • ClearOne –AEC Mic Mixer/Amp/Hybrid
  • Da-Lite Customized Projection Screens
  • Extron Matrix Switcher, XTP, TLP PRO Control Systems
  • Hitachi WUXGA Projector

CCS gave the Legends Theatre at Route 66 a massive overhaul of its video projection system—installing a 30-foot wide screen and three high definition projection systems, which were upgraded to 1080 source and switching. For the Envy Nightclub project, CCS implemented a top-of-the-line sound system featured eight full range high performance loud speakers and an amplifier indoors as well as four full range outdoor speakers and another amplifier.

Project Description

Additionally, CCS incorporated a video wall and installed video input control for visiting DJs to utilize high definition digital video. A TPS touch panel was integrated to operate sound and video through a Crestron controller.

The goal of the project was to create a state of the art video and audio distribution system for use throughout the property, routing multiple sources to specific displays/zones.

CCS utilized its experience with cutting edge technology found in Magenta Research products and built distribution around a Mondo switch. This allowed them to distribute sources such as satellite TV, keno, digital signage and promotions to various areas throughout the property. Much time was spent understanding the traffic flow and visibility of each display to the clientele.

Areas of the property were also broken into zones for audio distribution and speakers were tapped at different levels and set at different volumes to accommodate the volume of the patrons mixed with the gaming equipment on the floor. Audio visual equipment was also installed in conference rooms located in the back-of-house to allow staff members to more readily present, collaborate and discuss information.
